  • The State of Alabama provides low cost health (including dental) insurance for employees.  Dependent coverage available for an additional charge which may be payroll deducted.
  • Additional optional programs like flexible benefit plan available to save on health costs.

 

  • Employees participate in a defined benefit plan based on salary and years of service. Employees are eligible to retire at age 60 with 10 or more years of service or after accumulating 25 years of service credit at any age.
  • Contribute five (5) percent of salary to the Retirement Systems of Alabama (mandatory retirement program).  State matches/exceeds contribution(s) toward the Retirement Systems program.
  • Eligible for contributing to other payroll deductible retirement/deferred compensation programs.
  • Paid for annual leave up to 480 hours (60 days) when leave state service.
  • Paid for one-half of sick leave up to 1200 hours upon retirement.
  • Employees earn annual leave at the rate of four hours and twenty minutes (4.20) per pay period initially; increases each five years up to a maximum earned per pay period of nine hours and forty-five minutes (9.45).
  • Earn sick leave at the rate of four hours and twenty minutes (4.20) per pay period.
  • Thirteen (13) paid holidays per year - twelve regular plus a personal day to be taken at your discretion (except Baldwin and Mobile counties who get Mardi Gras Day).
  • After five (5) years of service, employees are eligible for a longevity bonus to be paid each December.  Amount increases every five (5) years from $300 to a maximum of $700.
  • Employees are eligible to join institutions like the State Employees Credit Union and the Alabama State Employees Association.
